This course is task-oriented: each week the students will be given an assignment of integrating the four English skills. For example, the students will be asked to listen to or read some materials on the Internet, and then write a summary of and a commentary on such materials. Their writings will then be discussed by the teacher and the students together in class to find out the problems for correction. In this way, the four English skills are integrated in the students’ work on the assignments and in class discussions.
In their work to improve their four English skills, the students will be required to enlarge their English vocabulary. It is estimated that a student must have at least 7,000 to 10,000 English concepts words in order to successfully carry out the tasks of integrating the four skills. Guidance will be given to help the students enlarge their English vocabulary.
